Kia Ora*

The pressure of a first post has been unbearable. 

Then WordPress got angry with us for our absence and gave an error message on the site. My apologies to you, reader.  With the diverse demographic of those visiting 5Adrift we weren’t sure how to devise it – is it a source for educational information, a travel itinerary, a how-to for packing, a travel journal…?As we say back in the ol’ country, “whatever.”  I’m going to write some random thoughts and post some random pics and see how this all unfolds. The blog may lack structure and elegance but maybe my quippy remarks and overall charm will outshine all that.  So…

Currently on Day 3 we’re enjoying breakfast in our bach** on Waiheke Island.  Waiheke is a beautiful vacation spot off the coast of Aukland – think Nantucket + Hawaii.  We chose to go here directly upon arrival to chill and get adjusted.  This was brilliant because chilling seems to be the main agenda for everyone here.

Our first day (Friday) we arrived at 11 am, dropped the luggage at our place and headed straight for Little Oneroa Beach; a great spot for kids. There’s a playground, a pizza stand, and lots of sun – an ideal combination for travel recovery.

We did our best to stay awake until a fairly normal time but gradually we started losing people.

*kia ora: Māori greeting meaning be well or be happy.  Also the name of Air New Zealand’s inflight magazine.

  11. Man Ben while you are sitting on a beach towel we are up to the usual fandango at school…UGH… in my opinion I would stay on vacation as long as I can!!
